It's been a while! (last post: 2007)

I've been blogging over at super-junk and was wondering if I ought to be crossposting to VOX as well. Does anyone read this thing?

Seems I only update this thing after attending an amusement park, today is no exception!
This weekend was the annual carnival in los alamitos and concurrent rooftop party at kevin's.  It was a good time, and I was especially relieved that it was a good time since I was developing a track record for having a crap time at parties.  I think my antisocial streak is fading.

lets get dizzy!  I rode the tilt-a-whirl and kamikaze before I ran out of money.

I'm also excited for next weekend - long memorial day weekend + my birthday.  Last year we went to the zoo, this year I'm planning something equally juvenile like go-karts or iceskating.  wheee!

oh, and "Bodies: the Exhibition" is in town, so we will try to catch that.  I saw bodyworlds 2 in LA and it blew my mind.

Yes! our Tokyo/Osaka trip is only 4 weeks away and we are getting unbelievably excited!  everyone keeps trying to tell us what to expect but we both know that this trip is going to completely blow away any expectations and so we're keeping completely open minds (and trying to be good and save lots of money...). My passport hasn't arrived yet but that's the only loose string and I'm expecting it any day now. I'm trying to go out hiking a few times a week to get my legs in shape for all the walking.

What item(s) do you have to prevent yourself from buying at the grocery store? 

hostess fruit pies! I love you, pocket of syrupy sin!
also, candy from the impulse buy aisle, brownie mix, crescent rolls, cookie doh, anything instantly delicious, buttery, flaky and fattening.  YUM.

Mr. Cheeks is upset that he had to stay home for thanksgiving, but I am not.  I couldn't run the risk of him embarassing me by putting his butt in people's food, especially since this year was only the second occasion where I have spent any time with Paul's dad and his wife. It was a wonderful holiday - it's has been a couple of years since I spent thanksgiving in a big family-style environment.  When I was growing up, I remember being so embarassed of my goofy uncles and cousins, but have come to learn that all families have that element of weirdness, and if they don't, they should!  if you can't be weird with the people you love the most, something is not right.  anyway, the holiday was very warm, comfortable, and nice.  I had two pieces of pie.

As I sit here eating a leftover slice of caramel-apple pie, our turkey carcass (the one that I was not home for) is simmering on the stove for soup, filling the house with the most incredible smell. Reminds me of my mom and her domestic-awesomeness.  I'm in charge of the soup this year, I'll be trying very hard to make it taste like hers.

I'm also thinking about just how great this weekend was overall.  My evening-job wrapped up on tuesday, so I was able to leave on wednesday night for longbeach, help get the house ready for thanksgiving, relax a bit, sew (I spent all day friday sewing clothes for Paul's Blythes and did not take any pictures.), and prepare for Paul's housewarming party on saturday.

I was in a great mental state for this party - last couple of times there have been gatherings at the house I have been kind of an anti-social butthole, but I was in great spirits for a change.  and thankfully so, since in addition to the usual people at the party, a couple blythe/doll people showed up.  Hilary (snoopygirl), Katie (lifelessmind), and Julie (blukat), all made the party very much fun.  Thanks hilary and katie for listening to my drunken dolly babble, and thank you julie for encouraging the pyromania that always ensues at these things.

Sunday was reserved for sleeping, sleeping, and waking to consume large quantities of meat and deep-friend onion rings of joy. 

And now, back to the lonely work week. Is it any wonder I hate mondays so much?

Halloween hasn't even happened yet, but I got it all out of my system last weekend.  Here's some pics of both costume parties we went to - one with the regular friends and one with BJD-friends.  More on my flickr

mildly related rant:  I frigging hate it when you screw up adding large numbers of songs to your iTunes and end up making multiples of the same songs.  Why does iTunes have an option to "show duplicate songs" but no option to "remove multiple songs???"

I know that Flickr's had geotagging for a while, but I didn't use it until Tita pointed out that they have added the map to the organize  page for really easy geotagging fun.  I just plotted all my doll meet pics (which reminds me, I'm due for an LA meet...)

this is so cool!  I feel like I'm spying on people in my neighborhood when I look at the pictures posted in my hood.
